Answer 2 :
Kansas City has plenty to do! During the fall season, you can enjoy the atmosphere that the Kansas City Chiefs football team generates (tickets to the games start at about $35, depending on where you sit). You can also enjoy the new Arena Football Team, the Kansas City Bombers (although arena football I believe has wrapped up their season). Aside from sports, you can enjoy The Plaza. The Plaza has lots of stores with fashionable clothing, great places to eat, and tourist attractions since Kansas City has the most water fountains in the world outside of Venice, Italy (a little known fact!). Neighborhoods close to Kansas City offer home town specialties in the food department, especially barbeque (which is a staple and well-known produce of the Kansas City area). Overall, there is a lot to do, and as they renovate downtown, access to everything will be much easier. Enjoy!

To answer your question about the weather...it's cold from November to March. It then starts to warm up and usually by May, it's warm to hot.
Answer 4 :
What to do in KC: The Plaza, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kemper Center for Contemporary Art, The National WWI Memorial, Crown Center, Kansas City Jazz Clubs, Country Music Bars, Westport bar district, Union Station science center. (there's plenty to do). Weather in KC: While you are there it will be cold, sometimes very cold with snow and ice. By late Feb. to March it will start to warm up. Shopping in KC: For cheap clothes try stores like Wal-Mart and Target. Higher end shopping can be found in the Plaza. Making friends in KC: Get friendly with your co-workers. In American culture it is not uncommon for people you work with to become good friends. Use that as a starting point to grow your circle of friends. You are a foreigner, so that will work in your favor, as we Americans find it hard to resist an accent, any accent! Since your 20, that will be a not great thing, since 21 is the legal drinking age, and is a strictly enforced law. This means you won't get into many bars and clubs and cannot buy alcohol in stores. You can go to a bar/restaurant early without a problem, but around 22:00-23:00, the staff comes around and will have anyone under 21 or without ID leave. I know, it sucks and is kinda stupid, but it is our way. Enjoy your stay in the Midwest! You'll have a much more American experience in KC than in New York or California.

Try Wesport, MO if you drink!

Here are a few general links about Kansas City, Missouri (MO): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kansas_City,_Missouri http://encarta.msn.com/encyclopedia_761572388/Kansas_City_(Missouri).html http://kansascity.about.com/ Kansas City does have a Soccer Team: http://kc.wizards.mlsnet.com/t105/ Many city parks have "football" fields that double as soccer fields. Soccer is only just now starting to catch on here. In the US in general Volley ball is usually a summer sport unless you live along the beaches of the Southeast or California. BUT some gyms have it here. You'll just have to look around for one near you when you get here...<my suggestion. Not only are there things to do IN KC, but in the _surrounding_ areas, too. Just to the northeast of KC (about 16 miles) is Smithville Lake where, even in the colder months you can enjoy varied outdoor activities in several County Parks which offer access to the lake and also from the surrounding Army Corps of Engineers natural woodlands. Smithville, the small town the artificial lake is located near has a small 'square' where you can find quaint little shops of several types. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smithville,_Missouri http://www.lasr.net/pages/city.php?Smithville&Missouri&City_ID=MO0202029&VA=Y&Attraction_ID=MO0202029a002 To the east of Smithville is Kearney which has a very rich historical past since that is one of the MAIN homes of Jesse James, the infamous outlaw. There, too, are several nice little shops to spend time in. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kearney,_Missouri http://www.triptrivia.com/step4.php?Submit=Submit&State=26&StartCity=35809 Near Kearney is Watkin's Mill State Park, it is comprised of the oldest woolen mill west of the Missippi River. http://www.watkinsmill.org/ North of Kearny by about an hour 1/2 drive is Jamesport. Jamesport is an authentic thriving Amish community that gains a bit of it's support by catering in certain ways to tourists. It's a very interesting place to visit since it gives a very unique view of one of the many diverse cultures which reside in this country. http://www.jamesport-mo.com/ South of Kearny is Liberty which has a LOT of historic signifcance as well. It's square also has a quite a few quaint shops. http://www.libertymo.com/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberty,_Missouri East of Liberty by about an hour's drive is Lexington. It's just one of many local Civil War sites that have been preserved in and around the KC area. As you can imagine it has a SEVERAL significant historical sites that have been preserved in a similar fashion as they existed in the Civil War era. The Westport area of KC is where some of more known battles of the Civil War were fought in areas in and surrounding Kansas City. http://www.historiclexington.com/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Westport Southeast of KC by about a two hour drive is Truman Lake near Warsaw, MO. It's a LOT like the Smithville area, but more laid back since it's further from the "big city" life of KC or St. Louis. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warsaw,_Missouri http://www.trumaninfoguide.com/ South of Warsaw by about a three hour drive is Springfield. Springfield is the 3rd largest city in MO (Missouri) just behind KC. There are PLENTY of things to do there. http://www.springfieldmo.org/final/ South of Spring field by about 45 minutes is Branson. Branson has been dubbed "East Las Vegas". Entertainment there ranges from outdoor activities all the way to Las Vegas Style stage shows. http://www.branson.com/ Now, back up around KC: To the southwest of KC by about an hour to an hour 1/2 drive is Lawrence, Kansas. Lawrence has a very rich Native American culture with it's own college and cultural enrichment places and programs. http://www.visitlawrence.com/ http://www.haskell.edu/haskell/ As a matter of fact Native American culture in and around the KC area goes back thousands of years. There is still just ONE Ancient Native American site that's been preserved in its natual condition called Line Creek Park near Riverside, just north of the Missouri River from Downtown KC. It no longer has a museum, but the artifacts from the previous museum are being stored and a new museum is in it's planning stages. But the grounds are a nice peaceful place to go within the City itself. http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GGLG_en___US205&q=Line+Creek+Park+KCMO http://cityclerk.kcmo.org/Documents/Document.aspx?q=k5k30uoU8J43D4JYZ07YNRipYkp%2BOhZvmWt3OykwMZmLnu3QiNxyQK48DTsfz5JtJsrhhEjtomQ%3D http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riverside,_Missouri Back to the Kansas (KS) side: North of Lawrence is Leavenworth, KS. It is the original site of Colonial Fort Leavenworth which is still being used by the Federal Government today as a small military outpost and Federal Prison. http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GGLG_en___US205&q=Leavenworth%2c+KS Back over on the MO side, north-northwest of KC by about an hour's drive is Saint Joseph (or St. Joe as the locals call it). St. Joe has a rich history and plenty of goings on, too. In the last 20 years it has grown tremendously with people moving from Kansas City to there for it's small-town flavor. http://www.stjomo.com/ Just to give you some orientation of the "wild tour" I've given you, Jamesport is east of St. Joe by about an hour to an hour 1/2 drive. Now, that I have you throughly confused...hehehe... There are LOTS of things to in and around the Kansas City Area. It just depends upon your tastes and if/or what you want to learn about the area's rich ancient history all the way up to the present. http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GGLG_en___US205&q=Kansas+City%2c+Museum As you've probably noticed by now, I've used Google quite a bit. If you run across anything in particular that interests you about something here, all you have to do is let your KB help you with finding out more about it. As for the weather here: http://www.weather.com/outlook/health/allergies/wxclimatology/monthly/graph/64168?from=month_bottomnav_allergies http://www.cityrating.com/cityweather.asp?city=Kansas+City You'll DEFINITLEY need some cool weather gear. As was mentioned there are MANY, MANY places here with all price ranges for clothing as well as other needs. I hope this helps give you a better understanding of Kansas City and the areas containing a lot of diversity around it. ENJOY your stay here! :D EDIT:As one answerer warned you, the legal age to drink alcohol here in the US is 21 so you're going to have to depend upon the suggestion of making friends with co-workers and going to places like Union Station and other cultural areas, etc. Another word of warning about a somewhat crazy law that we have here concerns the age of your friends. It's best to keep your friendships with people 18 or over. I know, it's weird, but the way it has become. Sad, but true.
